Actiferm - MANURE
Agriton Bokashi™ the power of Effective Microorganisms (EM®)
Weekly applications of Actiferm onto the animal bedding during the housing period, farmers will typically see a reduction in the amount of straw bedding material used. This is due to the microbes breaking down the straw to increase the straws surface area. The greater the surface area the greater the straws ability to absorb water and keep the bedding dry. This works best when bedding is cleaned every 8 - 12 weeks.
The inclusion of the microbes will reduce the smell of ammonia within the shed, which also increases the amount of total nitrogen within the bedding. This is due to microbes converting ammonium into microbial proteins, or, inorganic forms of nitrogen into organic forms. Inorganic nitrogen, in the form of ammonium, can easily be lost as ammonia which reduces the value of the bedding but also posses health risks, especially in enclosed spaces.
Multiple trials have shown that the microorganisms in Actiferm can out-compete and prevent potentially harmful pathogens, such as E.coli, from establishing within the bedding. With less pathogens in the bedding environment there will be a reduced disease pressure on the animals.
Adding Actiferm into the bedding has all the above mentioned benefits but it isn’t quite as good at breaking down the organic matter. This is due to the pH being less than ideal. To get all the benefits and achieve the same level of breakdown, simply add Ægir into the bedding at the same time as the Actiferm. Edasil can also be added at this stage if desired.
