Fertilise Smarter, Not Harder: The Liquid Applicator Revolution

A farmer has many pressures placed upon them: financial, environmental and regulatory. This is even before any crops are planted, tended and harvested. True sustainability includes the farm’s economy – you cannot be green if you are in the red.

The focus of modern agriculture is, therefore, efficiency and getting more from less – a key principal of Agro-Vital’s philosophy. Using placement starter fertilisers such as Huminostart (micro granulate) or P-Focus (liquid) can significantly reduce the use of broadcast, granular products with benefits to the environment, soil health and the bank account. Having the ability to apply fertilisers at drilling also has the benefit of reduced travel for spreading operations.

Many modern drills now have the facility to apply granulates and microgranulates “down the spout” but drills with liquid applicators are less common and come at a premium cost. Agro-Vital, though, are developing a retro-fit liquid fertiliser applicator that will do the same job but at a fraction of the cost.

The unit consists of a tank to hold water & product, pump, pressure regulation and application nozzles; all of which can be safely and securely attached to the main body of the drill using zip ties and ratchet straps. Dose rate is adjusted according to forward speed and application can be directed to above, below or directly onto seeds.

The applicator is being trialled in a number of combinable crops in Devon using P-focus, our liquid starter NPK fertiliser that has proven its worth in potatoes and maize already. The unit has worked remarkably well and the crops will be monitored to see their responses to the P-Focus – watch this space for updates.
